The Many Varieties Of Garden Plants

There are many types of garden plants that are available for those who are planning to start a flowering garden. These can range in size and type as well as color and appearance. Aside from that these plants possess certain characteristics that make them ideal to be put in certain areas of the garden as well as planted on certain times of the year. This is why being familiar with the different types of garden plants will ensure that any flowering garden will stay colorful and blooming throughout the year.

Annuals – These types of plants are perfect for those who want to achieve a different garden effect every year. This is because these types of plants live for only a year or less. They are normally grown through seeds and they flower only for three to four months before producing seeds and dying. They are usually places in borders and hedges.

Biennials – As their name says, these garden plants live for a maximum of two years before it dies. They are considered to be seasonal plants like the annuals because they tend to bloom only for a certain period of time most specifically during the 2nd year of their growth. This is why people who love growing these types of plants must plant them every year.

Perennials – These is more longer – lasting than the first two types of garden plants as these have the tendency to live for more than two years. This means that there is basically no need to plant them year after year unlike the annuals and biennials. However, they are recommended to be placed in permanent spots in the garden as they are certainly not an option for those who prefer changing the design of their garden on a regular basis.

Shrubs – These plants are smaller than the trees although both of them have the same woody stems or trunks. They usually grow near the ground and are characterized by their bushy appearance. They come in two subtypes, the flowering shrubs and the ornamental shrubs. These two provide the same effect to the garden although they are quite different from each other in the sense the first sub type produces flowers while the latter does not. However, both are great additions to any garden design and structure.

Trees – This type of plants can come in the form of flowering trees, fruit trees, ornamental trees and shade trees. Like the shrubs, they come with woody stems and branches. They are great for those who want the element of height in their garden. Aside from that, they are important because the shade the smaller plants from too much heat and strong winds. Also, they can provide stability to the soil especially during instances of strong rains.

Creepers and Climbers – These are vine – like plants that are usually seen crawling across walls and other plants. This is what makes them great especially in providing a mysterious effect to any garden.

Bulbs – this last type of garden plants produce some of the best flowers for any type of garden. They are characterized by their unique stem structure that are usually planted on the ground from which the roots, stems and leaves appear. These plants, which include tulips and daffodils, are easy to grow and care for.
